THE RESIDENCE

The 450 sqm residence, praised as “One of the Most Outstanding Works of Contemporary Architecture from Around the World” (The Phaidon Atlas of Contemporary World Architecture), occupies the highest peak of the estate. Peter Davey from The Architectural Review writes: “The house is moving to visit, and plainly excellent to stay in”. Inspired by ancient Greek architecture, it consists of a series of cubic forms creating a unified fortress–like exterior, protecting the residential areas from the heat and often fierce local winds while providing calmness and natural cooling. Numerous openings connect the interior spaces directly to the large multi-level courtyard at the core of the complex, accessed through a shaded peristyle extending the full length of the house. The crushed, earth-tone local stone with which buildings have been dressed makes surfaces feel as warm and alive as the surrounding landscape, endlessly transformed by light and weather.

LIVING ROOMS

Antique portraits of past noblemen, exceptional objects of art from the Greek islands and contemporary furniture define the relaxed living rooms. The main living room is located on the ground level of the main building, facing the bougainvillea-shaded courtyard and the bay beyond. It includes a large dining area and access to a delightful enclosed courtyard with extra seating, a serene patio adorned with flowers and aromatic shrubs. Above the main living room, a smaller lounge is available on the mezzanine level with fireplace and balcony with views to the pool and sea.

ACCOMONDATION

Bedrooms are smartly scattered around the house ensuring privacy within the residence, some in the larger main building and some in separate smaller annexes. While providing guests with ample comfort, they safeguard the principles of natural balance that prevail throughout the residence. Interior floors, walls and ceilings have been dressed with the same crushed, earth-tone local stone as the exterior surfaces, warm American oak has been used for doors, windows and wardrobes, the bathrooms have been fitted with sparkling Greek marble and openings of different sizes offer copious amounts of natural light, fresh ocean air and natural cooling. All bedrooms have direct access to the outdoor living areas.

Mykonos Villa MK has 4 guest bedrooms:

  • A master bedroom (23 sqm) with double bed and views to the sea is located on the 1st level of the main building, with seperate dressing area, two en suite bathrooms, private shaded terrace and direct access to the pool terrace.
  • A second bedroom (15 sqm) with double bed and views to the pool, the garden and the sea beyond is located on the lower level of the main building, with en suite bathroom and direct access to the pool terrace.
  • A third bedroom (11 sqm) with two single beds and views to the palm-shaded upper courtyard and the bay beyond is available as a separate annexe, with en suite bathroom and private rooftop terrace.
  • A fourth bedroom (12 sqm) with built-in double bed and views to the palm-shaded upper courtyard and the bay beyond is available as a separate annexe, with en suite bathroom.

All bedrooms fitted with large wardrobes. All bathrooms (3 – 3,5 sqm) with shower.

KITCHEN

A large open kitchen is located on the ground level of the main building, with commercial cooking equipment offering hassle-free dining opportunities. From preparing a quick snack to catering a party of many, simplicity and endurance are the rules here. With direct access to the central courtyard, the kitchen forms an ideal spot for culinary creativity without distancing guests from the house’s gracious holiday mode. Numerous indoor and outdoor dining options are available throughout the residence. A large dining table is located in the main living room while a second, shaded by bamboo strips, sits by the pool. A third smaller dining table can be found within the calm enclosed courtyard while a fourth is located in the kitchen.

CENTRAL COURTYARD

The core of the complex, a design referring directly to ancient Greek residences, the central courtyard is where all the indoor spaces open into, a meeting point for guests. At times relaxed and lazy, others vibrant and energetic, this is the residence’s central stage.A 10,5 X 6,5 m sweet water swimming pool dominates the lower level, shelterd from winds. Around it, a plethora of sun-kissed terraces and shaded patios offer welcoming and casual spaces to those wishing to share moments with others, or those simply in search of an escape in solitude.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

A service bedroom with one single bed is availble in the basement level (high windows) of the main building with en suite bathroom. A laundry room with commercial equipment is available in the basement level of the main building.

We encourage guests of all ages to visit the estate and enjoy its unique qualities in abundance. Basic precautions should be taken due to the size of the property and the simple fact of being amidst wild nature. Supervision of toddlers and younger children will be required at the house due to the height of some unprotected upper levels and the unfenced pool. We regret that due to the multi level format of the complex and the often steep slopes of the grounds the property is not disability-friendly.

The various and complex needs of the estate require full-time presence of staff on the grounds. Typically the caring of fields & animals, the house technical support as well as security issues are dealt with by a team of two people living within the estate. The staff share their own separate house at the vicinity of the main residence.

THE ESTATE

123.000 sqm of private land surround the residence, providing unbeatable privacy from the hilltops right down to the secluded coastline. Extensive parts of the estate are currently being cultivated and guests are welcomed to wonder among the fields and discover the various local flowers, herbs, shrubs and trees. Mykonos Villa MK also boasts its own winery, livestock, BBQ tavern and private access to the sea through a stone jetty. A network of private roads offers easy access to major parts of the estate, leaving plenty more to be discovered by the adventurous hiker.

GARDENS & FIELDS

The estate is divided in two major areas of farmland, taking full advantage of wind-protected grounds blessed with natural water resources. Hill slopes have been carved into extended terraces, a centuries-old Cycladic tradition for safeguarding fertile soil in the often harsh Aegean conditions. Vineyards, olive trees, fruits and vegetables are cultivated year-round, while flowers, herbs and aromatic shrubs adorn the stone-built terraces, their lushness forming a sharp contrast amidst the barren landscape of the island.

Most of the estate has been preserved completely unspoiled, a fascinating area for those eager to discover pure Aegean nature, from wildly grown thyme and caper to startled seagulls roaming the skies above.

COASTLINE

A 490 m coastline forms the lowest boundary of the estate. Although rocky and rough, it hides a protected cove which can be accessed by a stone-built staircase, leading to a private jetty. From here guests can enjoy the sea within the privacy of the estate, miles away from the crowded beaches.

Shaded patios and a private BBQ tavern can be found within the fields just above the jetty, a charming alternative for dining or simply relaxing in lush surroundings, lost in vineyards and bougainvillea.

LIVESTOCK & PETS

A selection of animals are bred at the estate. Chicken, pigeons, pheasants and peacocks can be found at various areas and guests are welcomed to visit the animal houses.

A small number of cats lives in the gardens around the main house and at times they may be seen lazily enjoying the sun on the outside terraces.

LOCATION

Mykonos, repeatedly voted one of the most exciting islands in the world, is trully a hedonistic playground for the senses! The island combines the epitome of Greek island beauty with top quality holiday options: The charming Mykonos Town, a registered Protected Traditional Settlement. The imposing archeological site of Delos, a Unesco World Heritage Site. Honey sand beaches, some of the best in the Mediterrannean. Top-class cuisine, irresistable local delicacies and fine shopping. A vibrant nightlife. And the unique nature of the island itself, defined by its incredibly bright natural light and dramatic rocky landscape.

Mykonos Villa MK is located at Moroergo, in the largely undeveloped northern part of the island, within a strictly protected natural area, east of Ftelia bay. Remote and peaceful, yet just a 15 min drive to the nearest town of Ano Mera, the estate is ideal for exploring the island on your own pace, far from the pressures of high season crowds, traffic and commotion.

The use of a car is essential. The estate is reachable through a sometimes narrow and in parts unpaved road, as most secondary roads on the island.

Mykonos is linked with Athens all year round. Direct flights depart from Athens International Airport, while numerous catamaran and ferry services depart from the ports of Piraeus and Rafina. Direct flights from major European cities are available in summer.
